Before joining The Greenwood Company as Executive Vice President, David L. Mitchell had 33 years of experience in health care, biomedical research and education fund development.  As the first President and CEO of Scripps Foundation for Medicine and Science, fundraising arm of The Scripps Research Institute and Scripps Health in San Diego, his programs raised more than $500 million over his 11-year tenure.  At Oregon Health & Science University, where he served as Vice President for Development and as President of the foundation, he restructured the entire program, including the recruitment of more than 20 new staff positions and the creation of 14 trustee-chaired development councils for biomedical ‘product lines,’ increasing private contributions in the process.  As Director, Institute Relations for The Neurosciences Institute in La Jolla, a world-renowned center for pioneering brain research founded and directed by a Nobel Laureate, Dave conceived, designed, and implemented a capital campaign that secured more than $20 million in new private sector commitments in less than three years.  Dave also served as the chief development officer for Stanford University Medical Center and University of California-San Francisco (Health Sciences Campus).

Dave also has considerable experience in education fund development, having held key positions at Northwestern and Lawrence universities and at two independent schools: The Cambridge School in Weston, Massachusetts and The Bishop’s School in La Jolla, California. Dave holds a B.A. degree in Government from Lawrence University in Wisconsin and did extensive graduate work at Northwestern’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
