Gallo, M.D., who co-discovered the HIV virus that causes AIDS, the Institute of Human Virology (IHV) in Baltimore, Maryland, is a not-for-profit biomedical research center dedicated to preventing, treating, and ultimately conquering HIV/AIDS as well as other chronic life-threatening viral disorders such as Hepatitis C and virally linked cancers. The IHV is the first center in the world to bring together under one roof basic research, vaccine development, clinical research, patient care, and population studies for HIV/AIDS.
